ART-PACK -- WHIMSY

Al Anderson (not to be confused with pulp artist Allen Anderson), LASSIE - A coloring book released by Whitman.

Carl Barks, UNCLE SCROOGE 39, (UNCLE SCROOGE # 39) - Western Publishing re-used the cover art on issue 102 of the same series.

Phil Brickman, [unknown title] - This bit of whimsy was found as a novelty placque at a thrift store. Seemingly nothing online about this artist, except for a a single similar work by him with a caption that suggested he was an artist local to the Tampa area.

Dik Browne, RUMPELSTILTSKIN, (CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED JUNIOR # 512) - The cover of a comic adaptation of this tale by the Brothers Grimm.

Dik Browne, THE GOLDEN TOUCH, (CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED JUNIOR # 534) - The cover of a comic adaptation of this Nathaniel Hawthorne tale.

Stan Campbell, THE SINGING DONKEY, (CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED JUNIOR # 550) - The cover of a comic rendition of a possibly original tale.

L.B. Cole, HANS HUMDRUM, (CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED JUNIOR # 561) - The cover of this comic rendition of possibly an original tale.

Mel Crawford, SANTA CLAUS FUNNIES, (FOUR COLOR # 607)

Mel Crawford, THE LITTLEST SNOWMAN, (FOUR COLOR # 755) - "From a story by Charles Tazewell" - This was but the first of a few Christmas publications that the partnership produced built around Tazewell's fairy tale character.

Jack Davis, YAK YAK 2, (FOUR COLOR # 1348) - "Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three ..." - The second of two comics with Jack Davis as the sole creator. One imagines that this was an experiment by Dell/Western to see if the magic of Mad Magazine could be replicated.

Jack Davis, YAK YAK 2 BACK COVER, (from FOUR COLOR # 1348) - The absurdist resolution of the gag established on the front cover.

Jack Rickard, STAR TREK CONS, (STARLOG # 3) - "Special Section-Conventions-'Star Trek'/ cons history-rare photo scrapbook-wild,weird & wonderful personal appearances-Shatner,Nimoy,Kelley,Doohan,Nichols,Koenig...more! // Color Gallery:Spaceship Designs // Progress Report:Six Million Dollar Man // 40 Sci-Fi Movies Made For TV // Space:1999-new episode guide // Latest News:films, television, books, records, etc. // Sci-Fi Comics News !!!" - The cover of this Sci-Fi fandom magazine, featuring the caricatures of many of this television show's main cast.

Jack Rickard, 3D STRIKES AGAIN, (from STARLOG # 5) - "3D Strikes Again...and again...and again !" - The main illustration accompanying David Hutchison's article on the previous 1950s film phenomenon. Indeed, it does appear that in its presentation, part of it was the black-&-white drawing.

Mike Sekowsky, THE GALLANT TAILOR, (CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED JUNIOR # 523) - The cover of a comic adaptation of a Brothers Grimm tale.

Jack Sparling, [title unknown], (SICK # ?? (back cover)) - One of a series of back cover cartoons Sparling executed for this humor magazine, that of 'living' paintings.

SOME MORE UNKNOWNS

[artist unknown], SANTA CLAUSE FUNNIES, (SANTA CLAUS FUNNIES # 1)

[artist unknown], THE RIVER'S SECRET, (FOUR COLOR # 818) - When auctioning the original art, Heritage wanted to attribute this to Gollub, but others have disagreed. I feel that I can see clear differences in how the racoon is presented, not to mention the style of everyone's eyes.

[artist unknown], THE THREE GIANTS, (CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED JUNIOR # 569) - The cover of this comic rendition of possibly an original tale.

[artist unknown], SANTA CLAUS FUNNIES 1958, (FOUR COLOR # 958)

[artist unknown], PERRI, (FOUR COLOR # 847) - "The intimate life of a winsome squirrel as she sees it and lives it in a remote forest recess..." - The comic adaptation of Walt Disney's 'True-Life Fantasy' film as part their True Life Adventures series. The movie is based on the novel [translated] Perri: The Youth Of A Squirrel by Felix Salten (who also wrote [translated] Bambi, A Life In The Woods). Some suggest Taylor Oughton as the painter of this, but I can't find any real confirmation of that.

[artist unknown], SANTA CLAUS FUNNIES, (FOUR COLOR # 91) - I've seen it suggested that Arthur E. Jameson was the painter.
